LATEST FROM FIJI.
The Melbourne Telegraph hasbeen favored by Mr. Joshua Finner, the Secretary of the Polynesian Company, with the following information “ The despatches received by the Polynesian Company, per Kearsage, U.S.S. ship of war, are up to the 25th July, They are dated from Mr. Cook, Levuka, 24th J uly. These papers corroborate previous advices. Mr. Cook was actively engaged in getting p petition signed to the American Government, to grant the permanent protection of the flag under their own self-esteem of self-government He writes—-the Galatea did not call here, she went to Tahiti, and then direct to Japan. Mr. Glenny has gone away to-day with two survey parties to Suva. I follow on to-morrow by wav of, Bau. I have two meetings to attend next week at the Rewa; this trip will occupy d fortnight. I shall probably go to Viti Levu Bay to examine our land there, and get the boundaries extended and The company is popular, and t,here is a bright future
before it. Suva and Benga deeds are signed, and in the hands of the American Consul.”
