Blenheim Borough Council.
The Council met on Thursday evening. Present: The Mayor, Councillors Robinson, Sinclair, Hutcheson, Hodson, Nos worthy, and Dodson, f After the minutes had been road and confirmed, Mr. Sinclair said he wished to apologise to the Council for having unwittingly trangressed against the Act at the last meeting. He felt it necessary to make this statement to keep up the respectability of the Council, and trusted it would be a warning to other members in future. The Mayor accepted the apology in the frank spirit in which it was offered, and hoped it would not occur again. The Council then adjourned till the following evening, in order that the new members migh be present. Cr. Robinson gave some notices of motion in reference to the metalling of High-street, and the Marketplace, and the appointment of a Treasurer.
Last evening, all the Council being present, motions were discussed as follows :—l. That half the liabilities of the late Board be paid this and the balance next year, was carried without a division. 2. A Collector to be appointed with a commission of per cent., and an Inspector of Works at £3 per annum. 3. A petition to be sent to the Assembly, praying for the transfer of the publicans’ licenses, wharfs, extending the boundaries of the town, and for dividing it into wards, was lost on a division of 7to 2. 4. Another to remove the Clerk’s seat apart from the Mayor’s was also lost on a division of Bto 1. 5. A Byelaw is to be introduced for lining persons for furious riding, and instructions were given for defending the Council in appeals against rates.
We arc unable, for obvious reasons, to give a detailed report of meetings held on the eve of publication.
