(From our own Correspondent), Alarming Native Intelligence. Te Kooti welcomed by tbe King Natives. English Troops sent for in haste. Wellington, Friday 6 p.m. A scene occurred in the House of Representatives last evening, and consternation prevailed while conjecture was rife as to what had occurred. It was stated by Mr. Fox that important and disastrous Native intelligence had arrived, but the circumstances were not divulged to the Assembly. The telegrams received by the Government yesterday contoin information that Te Kooti had been welcomed by the young men of the King’s pai'ty, and claims to he made High Priest and King. Great alarm exists in the Waikato in consequence. Further particulars have not transpired. Standing Orders having been suspended in the House, Mr. Fox moved a resolution urging General Chute to let the 18th Regiment remain, and pending an application to England, agreeing to pay what ever the Imperial Government may require. Mr. Stafford seconded the motion, which was passed by both Houses unanimously.
The Governor writes to General Chute urging compliance with the request. Mr. Featherston proceeds to Melbourne in the Omeo tomorrow with the resolutions, &c., on behalf of the Colony, to induce Chute’s concurrence. Major Brown’s privilege case has been referred to a Select Committee. The Budget is to be brought in next Tuesday. There are no other matters of special interest, but the House has been a good deal occupied in discussing the fancy resolutions of Tancred and Rolleston, The Karori diggings (Wellington) have turned out an utter failure.
