THAMES GOLD FIELD.

THE LONG DRIVE CLAIM. The correspondent of the Herald, under date 25th June, says;— “ A cleaning up this morning of tlie recent crushing of six days from the Long Drive of their middling stuff gave 1,557 ounces of amalgam, and should give over 500 ounces of gold. This must be another matter of congratulation to tlie rortuuaie shareholders. There is about 100 tons more to go through in addition to the large amount of specimens taken out of this wonderful claim. This afternoon over one hundredweight of the richest specimens ever brought from this or any other claim were brought to light. I need not picture to your readers the excitement here upon every fresh discovery, and the ‘ Long Drive,’ as ‘ Hunt’s ’ of old, is a bye-word in the mouths of all. Shares have recently changed hands at £l2O per scrip, and I should not be surprised to hear that they had considerably increased. [Prince Alfred paid £B3 per share.] To use the words of one who has seen this wonderful leader, 1 the whole is a blaze of gold.’ Through the courtesy of Mr. Muir, the Manager, we have been placed in a position to show the amount of gold which has been yielded from this surprising claim since April last up to the 29th instant, amounting in all to the magnificent return of 6,375 oz. 7 dwts. 18 grains of melted gold, of which the value duty paid amounts to the good round sum of £16,735 7s. 10-j-d.”
