THE LATE STORM ON THE EAST COAST.

Tun Grayling', cutter, is a total loss : supposed to have foundered at sea a short distance to the northward of the AVairoa. The headi is scattered with wreck ; the loss to the AVairoa storekeepers amounts to about £7OO or £BOO. The master and mate arc lost (Andrew Schou and Gustavus Reiehardts). Sehon is the third brother drowned upon this coast. The Hero had a very narrow escape ; she sprung her bowsprit, and was unable to work off the shore. Her master (Campbell) beached her about 200 yards to the northward of the mouth of the river; she is safe and can bo easily brought over the sand spit and launched in the river. The whole of her cargo has been got out of her; it was damaged to some extent. The bulk of her cargo being beer and spirits, the loss is not very great. 'The Murcwai, which was off the land when

the souther began to blow, there is every reason to believe is safe ; she has most probably succeeded in getting under the lec of Long Point. It is a great pity this vessel had to run away ; she had a large quantity of Government stores from Poverty Pay, and they arc very much needed. Xo news from Herrick. Ho is short of provisions ; ho lias plenty of meat and potatoes, but no groceries. The heavy floods in the river will render transport to the front very difficult. He has tremendous difficulties to contend against, and is surmounting them in splendid manner. The forces are working admirably in spite of fearful hardships.—ll. B. Herald.
