Travers has announced that he will stand for Wellington City on the Self-reliance policy. The Independent advocates the necessity of asking the Imperial Government to guarantee a new Five Million Loan as necessary to enable Self-reliance to be efficiently carried out. The quartz-reef discoveries near Wellington have been officially examined by Dr. Hector, but they exhibit no traces of gold. A small party of rebels have been seen and fired at near the White Cliffs.
