SATURDAY, MAY 8, 1869.

Oca space will not allow of any remarks upon the principal eveutjs of the week. Last week we indicated the courle which events would take, and what the intentions of the Superintendent were. The result has completely verilied what we then stated, and so far Mr. Eyes and his new-found Pictou friends have carried the day, by declaring that it was desirable that the existing form of'Goverumeut should cease, and their wish that the General Government should take upon itself the whole of the Departmental Expenses, leaving the Land Revenue, less its cost of collection, to be divided among certain Road Districts to be formed hereafter. In lieu of comment this week, we may refer our readers to the debate itself. Mr. Ward made a brave attempt to show the gravity of the movement, and the evils under which the Province had hitherto labored, arguing, as we have frequently done, that even supposing the Assembly took notice of the matter, we had been so unfairly dealt with in the past, by those into whose hands it was proposed to yield our rights, revenue, and powers of self-government, that there was little prospeect for better in the future ; that we ought to pause before doing so, and see what we are to gain in return. Judging from the past, there is a poor prospect for the future. A Petition giving effec; to the motion of the Council is to be prepared and forwarded to the Assembly. In the meantime, the Council has adjourned till Tuesday, the 18th May, when Kstimates, on the usual scale for three months, will be brought forward.
