Great exertions are being made in Loudon to prevent the Queen’s assent being given to the Act of last Session absorbing Provincial Sinking Funds [ Public Debts Sinking Funds Act.] The rebels have returned to |Mohaka. The natives of the locality are afraid. Te Kooti is reported to be dead, but the story is considered very doubtful. Haughton, the Ministerial whip, has resigned the Under-Secretaryship, having to attend the Otago Provincial Council, in which he acts as chairman of Committees.
