(From our own Correspondent). Prince Alfred’s MovementsAnother Massacre by Te Kooti near ITapier 40 Friendlies and 6 Settlers slain! Wellington, Friday, 6 p..m The Duke of Edinburgh landed on Monday last, when everything passed off very satisfactorily. At the levee, Mr. Eyes presented an Address from Marlborough. The bonfires, illuminations, and general decoration of the town werevery creditable. Every day since, the Duke has driven out four-in-hand. On Wednesday afternoon, being behind time, he drove nearly twenty miles in one hour seven minutes. Same evening he opened the Ball in the Assembly Buildings by dancing a quadrille with Mrs. Stafford. Late in the evening, he danced a reel, his own piper playing, amidst much applause. Last evening, he dined at the Club. To-day, the Galatea has been on show, the Duke invited a large party of Maoris to lunch on board, after which he visited a picnic at Lyall’s Bay.

The Galatea starts for Nelson to-morrow (where the Races will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday); will reach Lyttelton on Thursday, and Dunedin four or five days later.

On Sunday last Te Kooti attacked Mohaka, 40 miles north of Napier, and killed forty of the Friendly natives. Ensign Lavin, his wife, two children, and two other settlers were murdered, and their homesteads burnt. The women and children from Wairoa and along the coast, have come to Napier for refuge. The Militia and Constabulary have gone out from Napier in pursuit, but found Te Kooti had retired with several kegs of ammunition, and other plunder. Whitmore with his force have gone by Chute’s track to Taranaki. Their arrival there not yet known.
