THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH.
Ix consequence of the numerous enquiries as to the arrival of the Prince at Wellington, on Thursday morning last we despatched an enquiry, and in reply learned that at that time, 9*30, there was no signs of the Galatea. The Independent of the Ist April says “By the Ruahine, on Sunday, the 28th inst., the Governor received a letter, dated at Sydney, the 22nd inst., announcing that the Duke of Edinburgh intends to leave Sydney in H.M.S. Galatea on April Ist, and expects to reach Wellington on the 6th or 7th. The Duke has lately received orders from the Admiralty to visit Tahiti and the Sandwich Islands, which were not in the original programme, consequently his stay in New Zealand is shortened from eight to five weeks ; and he will take his final departure from Auckland on or about May 15 th. H.R.H. will, therefore, have time to visit only the main centres of population, but until his arrival at Wellington, his movements cannot be definitely arranged. At present, it is probable that he will be at Welling, on until about the 12th; that he will then proceed to Nelson, staying there from about the 13th to the 16th; that he will then proceed through Pelorus and Queen Charlotte’s Sounds to Lyttelton; that he will be at Christchurch from about the 18th or 19th to about the 24th ; that he will be at Dunedin from about the 2oth to about the 29th; and that he will proceed direct from Dunedin to Auckland, where he will make excursions and enjoy pheasant shooting for a few days.
