We were in error in stating in a recent issue that the Elizabeth went ashore at the entrance to Manawatu river. Captain Short, it appears, is thoroughly acquainted with the navigation of the channel, and able to go in or out independent of the signals from the pilot. It seems to be the general opinion of the shipmasters trading to the Manawatu that the signal station is placed in th?> wrong place, and requires moving nearer to the channel, as from its present situation a proper view cannot be obtained, and mistakes are liable to be made, which may prove fatal to vessels going in or out. — Post.
