CANTERBURY RACES.
We were indebted to Mr. Joseph Redwood on Tuesday evening, for a copy of a telegram announcing the result of the Races on that day, which came off successfully in the presence of His Excellency the Governor and his suite, at Christchurch. Mr. Radwood’s Manuka 1 The Maiden Plate would have been a gift to The Peeress, but she funked at the start, and was left at the post. The racefor the Canterbury Cup, (3 miles,) was ran in 5 min. 42 secs., being less time than has ever been done before in Hew Zealand. The nearest approach to it being two years ago when Belle of the Isle accomplished the task in 5 min. 50 secs., and at Nelson some years ago, when Strop beat Potentate in sm. 535.
