BIG BUSH SPORTS.
To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. •Sir, — I have much pleasure in being able to inform your readers (if the matter is of any importance to them) that my leg was only slightly injured, certainly not broken, as stated in your last issue. And in reference to your report of the Big Bush sports, !■ can only say that, although 1 may have committed the “ mistake” of furnishing a pig and greasing his tail, I am not to be held answerable for any squabble that may arise from the anxiety of contending parties in their endeavors to catch him. I am, &c., John Shepherd. [We have only to remark on the above note, that the information was given to our reporter by a member of Mr. S.’s own family, and we are glad to find it was not correct. With respect to the sports, the “ mistake” is also with our correspondent, who must be alluding to some other matter. The only remark about the pig business being that, “it would be well if in any future sports, this part of the programme were omitted.” So, far from imputing any blame to Mr. Shepherd, we believe no one could be more assiduous in providing ample amusement than he was, nor more obliging to the numerous friends who visited him that day.— Ed., M.E ]
