NEW ZEALAND PATRIOTIC FUND SUBSCRIPTION.
To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Sir, —I feel sure that some people, besides myself, will be glad if you can favour me with some information on the subject of the New Zealand Patriotic Fund subscriptions collected in the Wairau. You are no doubt aware that the Central Committee in Wellington have decided to return the subscriptions, because they find that the object of the Fund cannot be carried out. This has been notified to all the Local Committees, and in many places the subscriptions have been returned to the subscribers, but in Blenheim nothing has been done in the matter. I would therefore call the attention.of those interested, as in these hard times the money thus subscribed would be very acceptable in the hands of those who have a right to it, and especially to yours respectfully, A Subscriber. Blenheim, October 30th, 1868.
[The monies contributed in this province were so limited, both in number and amount, that we presume it was thought unnecessary to make any public announcement, especially as no funds exist for paying the expenses. The subscribers can, we believe, have the relative sums returned on application to J. B. Wemyss, Esq., the local Treasurer.—Eu. M.E.]
