HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

MONDAY, OCT. sth, 1868. Tho Awatere Shearing Bill was introduced by Captain Kenny, who said the object of the bill was to prevent the Superintendent of Marlborough leasing the reserve. Mr. Bunny believed it was understood that matters of this kind were left to Superintendents and Provincial Councils. Something more should be known about the bill. The hon. member for Blenheim was not presi nt. He hoped the second reading would be adjourned. The Bill was read a second time and ordered to be committed to-morrow. From the local papers, we learn that the bill was, on the 7th instant, further considered in committee, read a third time and passed. The following is the text: — “ An Act to prevent the Awatere Shearing Reserve from being leased. “Be it enacted' by the General Assembly, in Parliament assembled, and by .the authority of the same. “1. The short title of this Act shall be * The Awatere shearing Reserve Act, 1868.’ “ No lease of the land described in the Schedule hereto shall be granted, nor shall any lease or contract for lease heretofore made, if any such there be. have any force of validity whatever, any Act or provision to the contrary notwithstanding. “ Schedule 12,000 acres granted for public shearing ground.”

The following appeared as an Extraordinary on Monday last.]
