NOTICE TO CORRESPONDENTS.

Police Efficiency. —We have received a letter si ned “ A Looker On,” which is couched in terms altogether too strong for insertion. The writer complains that —when on Thursday evening “ a certain gentleman was drunk and making use of the most disgusting language” in the streets of the town, disturbing and alarming the inhabitants—two of the police force took him to a public-house, where he got worse, instead of the lockup. The writer draws a comparison between this case and that of a poor man ; and considers the town ought to take these matters into their own hands. He concludes with a commendatory reference to a former police-officer.
