A Caucus meeting of the Ministerial supporters has been held, when the Government intimated that, on re-considering thei state of the Finances, it was not prepared' to make the proposed adjustment or compensation to the Provinces this year, as announced in the Financial Statement. Mr. M‘Lean’s “alarm” resolution has been debated all week, and still going on. The Government is evidently speaking against time, waiting the arrival of M‘Neil frtiaa Southland* or good news from the IftonL votes are exactly even* Aoobhnta from the Front state that Col. has directed the withdrawal of the troops, from, the Outposts, and a retirement on Patea. M‘Donnell proposes an immediate attack, and then resigning. No confirmation these. rumors ; yet. • ' Some natives, at WMkanae, have commanded the half-caste children of one, Jenkins to be given up to them, and on his refusal, burnt the adjoining premises to Jenkins’ house. Dr. Eyans, one of the original settlers, and formerly legal adviser to the New Zealand Company, died on Wednesday last. In the Assembly, Mr. J. O’Neill has. proposed the consolidation of all revenue', territorial or otherwise.

The numbers were—l For the Government, 37 ; for Mr. Fox’4 motion, 30. Messrs. Bell, Hall, and shut out from speaking. Several of thel Opposition members were absent. Both! your members voted for the Government j but there is no coalition —far from it j Neither spoke ; Captain Kenny being an ultra-Oentralist, and Mr. Eyes a Proviiicialist, but obliged to vote for Government. [We presume this applies to a pledge given in connection with the proposed £IO,OOO compensation mentioned in our last.] Wednesday evening. Last evening Mr. M'Lean moved a motion of Want of Confidence ; the debate is still going on. The Government are expected to be beaten by one or two. Mr. Stafford is said to be going to resign. Both your members are for the Government.
