Calculating the Nelson revenue on this false basis is equal to £20,000 for the current year, and having to refund over payments. Nelson had recently appropriated nearly £35,000 too much ! They had received last month’s payment before Treasury making discovery of over-payment, and have been obliged to stop contracts, <Sic., in consequence. Fitzherbert had consolidated General Government fives, £409,300 ; sixes, £916,300. Provincial Sixes, £1,493,400. There are still outstanding respectively £590,700, £733,700, and £306,600. Terms for converting provincial Sevens, Eights, and Tens are under consideration. The Rev. P. Hay Maxwell, of St. Paul’s Church, Thorndon, who has been confined to his bed for some days past, died on Wednesday last, and is to be buried tomorrow (Saturday). There is nothing new irom Patea. The loss in Major Whitmore’s force at the East Coast is five wounded, and six killed, who were left where they fell.
