(From our Own Correspondent.) NATIVE OUTBREAK AT PATEA ! Three Men Murdered!! Wellington, June 19th. Friday, 4 p.m. No further nows from Patea. M‘Donnell left here yesterday for Patea; the Government having authorised the raising of 80 Europeans, and 50 Natives. 40 Europeans have been raised here, and are to sail in the Sturt on her arrival, the other 40 to be raised in Wanganui. Yon Tempsky’s Company of 80 men are recalled from Auckland to assist. The Governor last heard of at Napier,* and is expected hourly in the Stui’t. The Rangitikei Election is fixed for next Monday. No one opposes Mr. Fox. The Hon. John Hall (Postmaster-Gene-ral), has given notice for the termination of the existing local Steam Contracts 1 in September next. Their continuation or otherwise .will rest with the Assembly: L ; The Falcon for Blenheim, has been weatherbound all week, is loading from the Gertrude to-day, and will leave to-night or in the morning. ; . • The following telegrams were published in Extras on Saturday and Monday last:— ■ ' Saturday, June 13. 10-55 a'm. News has just been received to the effect that Sergeant Cahill, ■ a military settler at Ketemarae, near Patea, has been murdered by the Hau Hans. Particulars not; yet received*.m .Colonel McDonnell, has gone off to the scene of the murder, with all the force he could muster. , ~ 1 Monday, June 15, 11*20 a.m. Furthenparticulars have been received by Colonel' M‘Donnel, who has arrived here for orders. , Two men who were sawing, timber with Cahill, were also, shot. ; : .. I . : . -j ’ . ■ : ■ . , ~~ ■ ■ fi From the Examiner of Thursday last, we leam that Cahill and two other ( military settlers named Squire;, and Olai’ke, were attacked while putting a : log on a sawpit in the Eatemarai Bush, and Ahurdered byten the Ngutmo-te-manu tribe, sup-' ’posed , to home from Pongaroa. Two of the , settlers were shot through the heart, and they were all dreadfully tomahawked and mutilated. Some natives heard the firing, and saw the war party returning through their land, .exulting oyer the deed.. - Some of them; took the, , intelligence -to AVaihi;. •while the others went on to fetch the bodies. The natives near Turutumokai have
pledged themselves to defend the Euro- , . peans. The Pokahohi chiefs, .with. Tanga- | hohi and Tito ,of the Ngahuia - tribe have J also tendered- their, allegiance.
