(From our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Friday, 4-10 p.m. ‘The Provincial Council opened its sittings on Tuesday last. The Land Fund shows a deficiency of £21,000 ! This, and the ■“ spoliation” for the £6,000 moiety of the Marlborough Debt,' necessitated obtaining an overdraft. The current expenditurerequires £15,000, which is to be raised on mortgage. The total population of the Colony by the late census is declared to be 21,950, being an increase of 7,114 since 1864. All doubt is dispelled respecting Mr. Fox’s advent to the Assembly, as Mr. has resigned his seamier Rangitifcei iVfavor of that gentleman. , Colonel Haultain is starting to meet thq> Governor at Tauranga.- .
