Commercial Record.
WELLINGTON. Wednesday evening. The increasing slackness in every description of trade, together with the utter absence of speculation, keeps down the price of most descriptions of goods to their minimum, in spite of the gradual increase of stocks on hand and the probability of scanty arrivals during the next three months. In several articles, however, there has been a very perceptible, rise in value above our last month’s quotations. Flour has advanced steadily, and is now quoted at £22 10s, with every indication of higher rates being asked. Brandies and case gin are in the same category, and prices range for the former at 9s 6d to 9s 9d per gallon, and for the latter 19s per case of 3| gallons in bond. Stocks of all goods are exceedingly small as compared with those of previous years at this period, and good payable prices may be looked for on the shipments now afloat, when the depression which has its origin in the very low price of all. produce shall Lave somewhat abated, but in the meantime dulness prevails, and it is almost impossible to give other than mere retail quotations.— lndependent.
