LOYALTY OF MARLBOROUGH!
To the Editor of the Marlborough Express. Sir, —Although the question of Feniahism i. Loyalty, has already occupied a considerable portion of your space, I would beg to offer a few brief remarks on the subject, stale though it be. In the first place, I am pleased to find a sort of seconder to my motion, in the letter signed “ Enquirerand as our influential (?) men have failed to initiate a demonstration of lojmlty in Marlborough, it is satisfactory to know that a few. men and lads were found, with sufficient public spirit, to form a committee for the redemption of Blenheim from the .reproach of apathy. It is to be regretted that a little more publicity was not given to the meeting on Monday evening, as a lew more persons might have attended ; but mistakes will occur, and so I will not find fault with the promoters of the scheme, but wish them every success. Her Majesty’s Birthday is a very fitting occasion for a loyal people to express their attachment to her throne and person, and I don’t see any reason why we should not have a public meeting, and a little speechifying, as a sort of introduction to the proposed bonfire and pyrotechnic exposition. Some of our orators might favour -us with a few squibs and crackers, not perhaps so loud, but not less amusing or demonstrative than those manufactured by our persevering fellow-townsmen, the Norgrove Bros. I am a great advocate for blending instruction with amusement, and think it wise to “improve the occasion.” If we do have a' “ jolly good bonfire ” and lots of fun, our little ones will remember it for years to come, and a few patriotic sentences might be thrown in as seasoning to the feast.—Yours, &c., Blenheim, May Ist, 1868. Censokius.
