The Kaikoura Chronicle.
SINKING OK TWO VESSELS. TJndeh date February sth, a correspondent writes as follows ; —“ On Monday last, 3rd inst., a gale came on from the eastward. The schooner Triumph, Clarkson, master, (owned by Langdon and Co., of Christ, church), was lying in the harbour, when her easterly moorings gave way ; she then dragged her anchors, and was driven violently broadside on against the end of the wharf, breaking some 15 feet off the end of it, and receiving injury herself from which she sunk in a very short time and broke up. “ The ketch Sea Bird, freighted with limestone, belonging to the same owners as the Triumph, left here for Lyttelton on Saturday, the Ist inst., was caught in the same gale somewhere south of here, and driven back to Amuri Bluff, where she foundered. Besides her crow, there Were on board Messrs. Woods and Pilliett, the marine surveyors, with their men, who were going to Gore Bay. Fortunately no lives were lost, all getting ashore safely excepting Mr. Pilliett, whose ancle was severely sprained in the survey boat.”
