Original Poetry.
CLARA. Beautiful creature was Clara fair. Dark blue eyes and golden hair ; The fairest form you e’er did see, — Always smiling, full of glee. Her modest glances to and fro Would draw an angel down below. She was indeed the queen of girls, Love nestled in her bonny curls. Happy maiden then was she With her fond heart pure and free. Absorbing in her gleaming eyes The brightest planet in the skies. Tripping like some fairy queen O’er the meadow soft and green, On some gentle mission bent, To the poor with sweet content. But like some tender fragile flower That lives to bloom but one short hour, Cut down as she sweetly grew, — Gentle creature, fond and true. To join the heavenly throng above, Wafted like some gentle dove, To realms of light where all is joy, With happy angels in the sky. J.A, Spring Creek, Jan. 29, 1868.
