MARLBOROUGH CUSTOMS DUTIES.
Below we give our usual statement of the amounts received at the various ports of this Province for the Quarter ending 30th December last. We find there is a decrease on the total of about ,£IOO on the corresponding quarter of 1866, The total for the Province is £1,600, while the portions contributed by the respective ports shew a remarkable difference, which may be analysed thus : Wairau. —The increase is on spirits, 146?, wine 23?, tea 46?, coffee 3?, and sugar 68?. There is a decrease on cigars 19?, tobacco 14?, firearms 10s., goods by measurement 22?, and by weight 73?. Pigton. —Shows a decrease on every item, thus : spirits 151?, tobacco 22?, wine 16?, bottled ale 71, tea 18?, coffee 11? sugar 25?, firearms 155., goods by weight 15?, do. by value 2?, other duties 8?. The decrease on the total being 177?. Havelock. —The amount of duties paid here is so small that it would lead to an opinion that the system of paying duties in other provinces than that entitled t them, has some determined advocates. The only items of increase are, goods 4?, and sundry 1?. There is a decrease on spirits 19?, tobacco 37?, wine 11?, ale 51, and gold 21.
