BLENHEIM— Moxdav, .Tax. 13, 18C8. [Before S. L. Muller, Esq., R.M.] Georje Watson was charged with having wilfully committed damage, amounting- to 305., to the door of Mr. Macaulay, of the Wool pack Inn, at llenwicktowa, on the Blh instant, and pleaded guilty. Mr. Moffitt, who appeared for complainant, asked that the amount of damage done mi Jit bo added to any fine inflicted by the Court. The Bench said proved damages would be allowed. Defendant admitted the offence, but considered that the damages was assessed too high. Mr. Macaulay said he would be contented if defendant replaced the door in its original s:at -. Defendant then agreed to do so, whereupon Mr. Moflitt would not press for any punishment, since the offence had been acknowledged, and so far as he was concerned would not press the charge. Judgment: Fine, Is., with £1 11s. G>l. costs, including professional attendance. ASSAULT. Georje. Watson was then charged with committing an assault upon Mr. Macaulay on the same date as before alleged, to which he pleaded not guilty. J. D. Mcanlav, hotel-keeper, Ken wick, deposed that on the Bth January, he saw defendant at his premises. He came in the morning, and not finding him, broke the door as stated in the last case. Plaintiff being in his office, came out, whereupon the defendant seized him by the beard, and also challenged him to fight, end at the seine time lifting his fist to strike him, but did not do so. After giving him a talking to, defendant went away again. Defendant acknowledged what witness said was correct The Bench said it was evident that there was a bad feeling extant at Hen wick, from tliis and recent cases which had been heard, which must be put down. If any further instances arose, he would deal severely wuh them. As an apology had been offered in the present case, he would only inflict the nominal penalty of Is. and costs.
