ON looking over the last issue of the Marlborough Mews, I was astonished to find the following advertisement: — “ Mr. George Stonhouse is no longer authorised to collect accounts for the Marlborough Mews. “ T, W. Millington. “ George Coward “ Blenheim, Dec. 21, IS6B-” The error in the date I overlook as one of the multifarious errors connected with that journal. As I never on any occasion attempt to collect monies unless requested, I spoke to Mr. Millington regarding the advertisement; the only satisfaction I could get from him was that he knew nothing whatever about it, that Griffiths did it, and the firm only attached their names for the satisfaction of Griffiths, which clearly shows that the firm are mere tools in the hands of another. No doubt the public cannot possibly imagine otherwise than that I must have appropriated suras of money belonging to the said firm ; but a few naked facts, will throw some light on the matter. Having, through sheer necessity, been compelled to have a current accpunt.since last February with the firm of Coward and Millington—then T. W. Millington and Co.—and latterly with T. W. Millington, I have repeatedly requested a settlement, but the invariable answer was. “ Got no funds, but if I chose to collect I might myself.” Having occasion to go to end of last November, I had a convey,...on with Mr. Millington regarding his accounts there, and having made up all his own accounts I imagined I would have less trouble than a person unacquainted with their intricacies. I at once got a list of accounts, with the necessary instrument of authority; he mentioning at the time that summonses had been issued against the parties there, to be heard at Blenheim on December 9th, the amounts being about £l6 each ; but one of them being a “ valued friend ” of his, he wished me to see him and if possible prevent the case going into Court, at the same time stating that some considerable time ago arrangements were to t*ke half of the amount owing to some misunderstanding about the “ papers and advertisements," such arrangement being that I was to get half the amount with interest, but fail-
