THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH.

The Prince lias been measured for a pair of boots. The unfortunate boot-maker has been besieged by hundreds of people for the size of the foot of his Royal Highness. The Mayor of Ballarat has ordered a pair of boots to be made from the measure at an enormous price for his own private gratification;' There is no probability of his Royal Highness visiting Tasmania before

the beginning of the year, as he has several bets upon the champion race for the Ist January next. He visited the* races on Saturday, bet upon the Queen of Hearts, and lost his money to the extent of some hundreds of pounds. His Royal Highness started on a visit yesterday to the station of William Robertson, Esq., of Colac. Mr. Robertson is an old Tasmanian colonist. He is now the owner of one of the finest stations in Victoria, and promises the Prince great sport. I must not forget to tell you that his Royal Highness gave the Governor and all his grand suite the slip yesterday morning. After the regatta was over at Geelong, he jumped on to the Wiuehelsea coach, took the reins and drove off, merely accompanied by Messrs. Rrierly and Haig. People say he is tired of all our grand ovations, and is gone on a little spree by himself, for which all sensible people give him great credit. Ho doubt he will turn up somewhere in good time. —Melbourne Correspondent of the Hobart Town Mercury. We understand that his Excellency Sir John Young has received a telegram from his Excellency Sir J. H. Manners Sutton, Governor of Victoria, stating that, according to present arrangements, H.11.H, Prince Alfred would arrive at Port Jackson on the 14th January, and that he proposes to take his final departure from Sydney on the Ist March. Between these dates his Royal Highness purposed to devote eleven days to a visit to Queensland, including the time occupied in the voyage thither and back. H R.H. will leave Melbourne for Hobart Town on the 28th December.
