OTARIA.

(From our oyrrx correspondent.)

A "cricket' match was played on the hotel ground on Friday last between teamsjchoseiiifrom the Otaria and Slopedown /districts. > Mr Overton captained the former,, and Mr Millard the latter. The game, was all in favor of the Otaria men from the start. They were the first to go to the wickets, and before they were all disposed or .had scored 68. Tne Slopedowri men were not so successful, as thejjir were not even able to tot up this score in two innings. Overton's bowling was dead on the spot and was too superior for the Slopedown men to negotiate.' r ]?or Otaria Overfcon, W. Sadie and'Sl. Collins scored ,15, 15, and 20 respectively ; and for Slopedown Lambert and Lindley were the highest scorers. A return match will be played shortly. Mr Stennihg delived a lecture in the school room recently,, his subject being "The influence of alcohol on the human brain." There was a good gathering and considerable interest was taken in the- lecture. Mr Stenning had evidently studied the subject well, and his theory was really very good. A collection was .made in aid of books for Sunday school scholars, and a nice little sum was netted. It is to be hoped Mr Stenning will repeat his lecture, as a great many did not have ah opportuning of listening to him on the recent occasion.
