[Copy urgent telegram from Dj jlacCarthy.J Arrow, 17th March, 1883.- To Horace D. Monk, Dunedin. — Send large diarrhoea bottle, Duncan. Roxburgh, through by coach Monday morning without fail. — 0. MacCarthy. Rangiora, July 7, 1881. Sir, — Having carefully examined your 1 Herbal Extract,' I find it to be a skillfully prepared vegetable preparation, possessing i the properties of the plants from which it, is derived iD a highly concentrated state, a fact which 1 have vended by evaporating a iluid drachm placed in a watchglass over a spirit lamp. On weighing the result, a dark green extract, I found the weight to be 14| grs. On further submitting the extract to analysis 1 found it to be rich in tannin. In a large number of cases of ordinary diarrhoea, as well as in many chronic cases and in dysen- | tery, I kave proved it to possess great specific j control, added V> the inusual feature in a majority of dia^hcea medicines, that it does not subsequently constipate the bowels. I [ feel satisfied that from the number of trials I have been enabled to make of it in a somewhat extensive practic< ilis a most valuable addition to modern th rapeutics. The following cases are taken at random from my note-book : — Case No. 1 : Mra , West Eyerton, suffering for two years from chronic dysentery, which had reduced her almost to a skeleton. After a fortnight's trial not only had the diarrhoea stopped, but she commenced eating meat without pain and the usual concomitant vomiting. In two months she had gained 181b9. weight. Case No. 2 : A. G , child aged 5 years. Fortnight diarrhoea. Was effectually cured on the third day. Case No. 3 : A soldier who had contracted dysentery in India got a small two-ounce phial, and was well before he had finished half of it. — Caarles DeLacy MacCarthy, ALA., M.8., &c, Trinity College Dublin. Royal Park Hotel, Hotham, Victoria, October 4. 1882, Dear Sir,— After my two children ttnd wife taking two bottles of your ' Herbal Extract ' for the dysentery they were perfectly cured.
