At their monthly meeting to-morrow evening the Gore School Committee are to discuss the question of a high school. " Jacob " a.id Briggs are not yet convinced which is the better man in a foot-race. They ad another spin on Saturday night, when <f Jacob " again proudly marched to victory • They compete again this evening o^er the same course. Mr John Dwyer has offered to race tho wjnner of this event. We understand that the three pedestrians named have accepted an offer to make a tour and give exhibition matches, The holiday makers will have ample opportunity this evening of finishing up the day's enjoyment. First, there is the Choral Society's concert in the Templars' Hall, when a long programme oE sacred and secular pieces will be presented. The members have been in constant and assiduous practice, and should justify the confidence of their numerous friends. On the other hand, at the Town Hall, there will be presented the " Bride of Abydos " by the Wyndham Dramatic Club. The club has earned For itself a name outside its own immediate neighborhood, aud is lvported to mount aud act the piece in a style rarely seen. After the performance there will be a dance, at which refreshments will be provided, and the admission is only 2?. The scene of operations was the Garrison Hall, where decorations most profuse and artistic had been supplied by Mr J. M. Fraser and Staff -sergeant Blackmorc. About 150 coudlcs were present and nearly every individual wore sonic emblem of the land of Wallace, Bruce, Burns, and Scott. A cousidcrablc number of gentlemen were in full Highland costume, while the fair sex had also donned the tartan in one form or another to a large extent. The several corps of volunteers were also fairly represented, and the mingling of the gay costumes in the mazy dance, under the brilliaut sunlights, had a most pleasing and harmonious effect. The ceremonies were under the direction of Messrs A. M'Kellar and James Macgregor. and of course, in their ab'io hands, any hitch in the proceedings was impossible. The opening grand march was a splendid sight. It was led by the pipers — M'Donald. of Fassifern, being at their head — followed by the stewards with their partners, and then by the guests in order. When all up, the company formed a complete circle in close order right round the hall. Under the guidance of the masters a number of very beautiful evolutions were gone through, ending in an eutire assembly being brought to a stand in position for the first reel. The M. Cs. were indefatigable in their efforts to please and place all, and they must be congratulated on their success.
