POLLED ANGUS CATTLE AT OAMARU.

, The turn-out at Oamaru Show of that pretty class of cattle known 1 as the polled Angus was such as to command the attention and admiration of all breedsrs, and though the competition was only between the . New Zealand and Australian Land Company and the ]S T ew Zealand Agricultural Company it was unusually keen. T&e Agricultural Company took first prize with their celebrated bull "Waterside Eric, a remarkably fine specimen of the breed, now rising three years old. The New Zealand and Australian Land Company's Solomon, from Totara Station, was spcond, and the same Company's Patricius third. In two-year-olds there were only a couple of entries, and the Agricultural Company's Canny Chiel of Waimea, beat Waverley, the Totara representative. The Totara bull Gladstone was first as a yearling, and Eob Eoy second. The Agricultural Company had ouly one entry in this class — viz., Black Prince of Waimea, who was awarded third honors. Bella Second of Greystone, shown by the Agricultural Company, was awarded the red ticket for the beat cow of any age, the Totara cows TiHyfour Maid and Queenly being second and third respectively. In two-year-old heifers the New Zealand anil Australian Land Company were first and third, and the Agricultural Company second j but in yearling heifers the tables were turned, and Dairymaid, from the Waimea stud, came' out of the contest with first honors, Black Kate, from the Totara herd, being a good second, and Black Bess, a tister heifer, third. The competition oil through this class was exceedingly close, and the Land Company eventually came out of it one point ahead of their opponents, taking in all nine prizes to the Agricultural Company's seven. The Agricultural Company, however, had the advantage in hay. ing secured the majority of the first prizes.
