THE COUNTY ELECTION.
♦ To the ratepayers of Mataura and Hokonui Ridings, We are now on the eve of another election for the County Council, ami I wish to put it before you to ask yourselves if you are satisfied at the way things have been ' managed by our two local members during the last four years. You all know that ' our laws have been made so as to do away ■ with what is called the " truck system." ' Now, I wish to ask you if such system has ' not been carried on openl j ,and in defiance of ( the law, and also to the detriment of the 1 majority. If a contract had to be let it ' was|pretty well surmiged beforehand who was ( to get it, and it is also a wellknown fact that County funds for contractors were not iv- » l variably lifted by them thus allowing one I \ firm an advantage over others. Now, you all l '
, know this is not fair to the rest of the businesf people, and it ought to show you that the present members have beeu in the Council long enough. This will be a guid<i to you on Wednesday next. — I am, etc., A VOTER WHO HAS PAID HIS RATES j AND INTENDS TO VOTE. I Waikaka, November 3, 1884.
