FORTROSE TELEPHONIC ARRANGEMENTS.
—^> TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — Please allow me, another settler, to confirm the spirit of the letter you recently published in your paper referring to the post and telephone office at Fortrose, signed "Settler"; and I cannot but express my disappointment that our member should have displayed such a shallow parliamentary capacity, as apparently he lias had to concentrate his whole mind and effort cm an endeavor to obtain tli.it which the district as a whole has no desire for at present, whilst other matters of much more importance are . evidently totally ignored or are otherwise above his capacity. Had he displayed ihe same amount of energy in endeavoring to obtain a grant for harbor improvements, road works, or the establishment of a District Court even and the location of a constable, his efforts would have met with corresponding approval. I am quite of opinion that were there a sufficiently numerous population here the Government would not need h.iras-dng to establish an official office, for surely the amount of business done must enable them to judge if such is necessary or not. It might just as well be argued that I require three servants, whilst at the same time I know that my income will justify but one. — I am, etc., Another Settler. Fortrose, Ort. 20, 1884.
