PROPOSED JOINT MUSICAL ASSOCIATION.
'. • «* • TO THE EDITOR. $IB,— lt seems to me that if thetowns of Gc-re, Mataura, and Wyndham, they being within easy distance of one another, would unite- in the formation of ' a M usical Society a gpod . choir would be obtained — a thing much to be desired. At present . it is always noticeable that at any concert given in ova of ;these towns there is always something wanting. There is no doubt that in all of the three towns there is what I might term very fair talent, and if a good conductor or choirmaster were obtained and regalar attendance at practice observed, "the results would doubtless be very beneficial to all of the places named. A good sized choir is at all itimes preferable to a small one. At Gore for instance they may have enough and to spare of one kind of voices; which at Wyndham or; Mataura are in the minority, • but strong in another class just perhaps where Gore is weak. Thus all of the towns would possibly supply what v\ as wanting to each other and combined form an excellent choir. There is, I understand, in the district a - gentleman in all ways suited for the office of conductor, being efficient' and energetic, ani having withal a thorough love of jiiusic. From what I can learn his services might be 'secured at a very moderate cost, say,' perhaps , L3O. for the course; : with' an averages number of -members • of > 6Oj j wh.ichl think in the three places would be easily got.j The likelihood is that the membership would be much -in 'excess of that number. The) matter ;c'ould be easily accomplished ait" a cost, of f say . lOs-Cd per member for, the cburse," At' 'the close of the season three concerts^ might, be given— K>he' : in each of the towns, where I have ,no, doubt, the results- of. -the training would be heajd and. appreciated : by j the -townspeople 1 arid surrounding settlers.— l am, etc., ■ ■■■■-_■■ 1 .
