Monk, Dunedin. — Send large diarrhoea bottle, Duncan, Roxburgh, through by coach Monday morning without fail. — C. MacCaethy. Rangiora, July 7, 1881. Sir, — Having carefully examined your ' Herbal Extract,' I find it to be a skillfully prepared vegetable preparation, possessing the properties of the plants from which it is derived in a highly concentrated state, a fact which I have veritied by evaporating a fluid drachm placed in a watchglass over a spirit lamp. On weighing the result, a dark green extract, I found the weight to be 14 J grs. On further submitting the extract to analysis I found it to be rich in tannin. In a large number of cases of ordinary diarrhcea, as well as in many chronic cases and in dysentery, I have proved it to possess great specific control, added to the inusual feature in a majority of dia__hcea medicines, that it does not subsequently constipate the bowels. I feel satisfied that from the number of trials I have been enabled to make of it in a somewhat extensive practice, it is a most valuable addition to modern therapeutics. The following cases are taken at random from my note-book : — Case No. 1 : Mrs , West Eyerton, suffering for two years from chronic dysentery, which had reduced her almost to a skeleton. After a fortnight's trial not only had the diarrhcea stopped, but she commenced eating meat without pain and the usual concomitant vomiting. In two months she had gained IBlbs. weight, Case No. 2 : A. G , child aged 5 years. Fortnight diarrhcea. Was effectually cured on the third day. Case No. 3 : A soldier who had contracted dysentery in India got a small two-ounce phial, and was well b._ore he had finished half of it.— Caarles DeLacy MacCarthy, M.A., M.8., &c, Trinity College Dublin. Royal Park Hotel, Hotham, Victoria, October 4. 1882. Dear Sir, — After my two children nnd wife taking two bottles of your ' Herbal Extract ' for .the dysentery they were perfectly cured. I have great pleasure in pronouncing your medicine the finest for that complaint .hat I have ever tried, both for self and family, during my thirty years in the colony. — I remain, dear sir, yours truly, TR. NICHOLIS. Rectory, Oamaru, Feb. 12, 3882. Dear Sir, — Your *• Herbal Extract ' has now been used by various members of my family and by several neighbors, and has in all cases proved, beneficial. — I am, &c, R.
