DAILY ' HANSARD.'
If' wo are to judge from the fact that Mr Macandrew seized the very first ! opportunity to give notice to more for a j daily ' Hantard,' that fad is the chief j plank in his platform. He in one of the ; men '* with a policy " If there is nothing I in this country wants correcting but the ! issue of ' Hansard . we must be very | near the millenium indeed. Mr | Macandrew says the people are erring j for bread, and he proposes to give them I ' Hansard.' Surely it would be as well j to give them the proverbial stone at j once. There is far more Parliamentary news, printed in the newspapers of the colonies than is read by anyone outside j of the circle of active politicians and ; newspaper men. The purpose of ' Han- ! sard ' is to preserve in book form a com- j plete history of Parliament. The game ! is probably not worth the candle, '. but much less would it be worth while to stand four or five times as much to provide free wrapping paper for the butchers. 3N"o mortal who has anything else to do has time to read all that is talked in Wellington as fast as it falls from the speakers, and if there are any who have nothing else to do but road we doubts if they would give fire hours a day to ' Hansard.' Besides, even if published daily, it would arrive in batches in aU parts of the colony save Wellington. Any fervid Itadical can get the delectable publication for 10s per year and keep it in liandy form to study all the ' year round, and to hand down to, his posterity, so that the grievance only amounts to the small sum of half -a* sovereign. We strongly advise :Mr Macawdeew's following to buy ' Hansard' for a single year and to ; talk about its value to the people afterwards.
