■ __^ o 1 (From the ' News.') The Council met at the' usual 1 hour on Friday, May 9. Present —Messrs T. MacGibbon (chairman), Richardson, Black, Shand, Kinross, Hast, Shanks, and Baldey. It was resolved to hold a special meeting on the 13th instant for the purpose of considering the annual balance-sheet. • q- ' The Crown Lands Department, Wellington, wrote in reply to a communication from the Council stating that when deferred pay m ent sections were capitalised onethird 5 of the money was credited to the local body in the vicinity for expenditure. F. M. Dawson, on behalf of settlers at Puker-u,:, wrote stating that works promised had not been proceeded with, and requesting attention thereto. — The matter was allowed to stand over as there, were no funds. The Toi Tois Road Board drew attention to a culvert requiring attention at the east -end,of,Fortrose, which was causing an overflow of- water.: — It was agreed to 'request the Board to give more specific information as to the culvert ; the Engineer to then report thereon. The Engineer reported on the cost of widening, tiiefgotbridge for dray/^Sffic over the Wyndham ' river at Mokoreta.
