FATAL ACCIDENT AT CROYDON.

T' • • ur painful duty to chronicle a iiitia accident that occurred at Croydon on Wednesday evening. Between 6 and 7 o'clock Edgar and George Williams, sons of Mr C. T. Williams, were returning from Mr Dillon's residence with some household necessaries, when they fell in with MrJ R. Diclcson's three horse dray, which was loaded with i sheaves and driven by John Dickson. The leading horse was a spirited one, and the driver asserts that the sudden appearance of the two boys had the effect of starting the team at a trot down the hill just beyond the old sawmill. Edgar kept clear of the team, but about John's movements some doubt seems to exist. At anyrate, whether John attempted to clamber into B the dray or not, Edgar went in front and on looking back shortly after was horrified to find his brother lying on the ground, the wheels of the machine having apparently either passed lengthways over his body or so pressed it against the side of a deep rut as to cause immediate death. With all possible haste, E dgar informed his father of the occurrence and the body was removed to the parents' residence, where it was at a later stage seen by Dr Macaffer. who is of opinion that fracture of the base of the skull was the cause of death. The little fellow was only seven years old. Constable Fret-well was on the ground yesterday making enquiries regarding the accident, and we understand he does not deem it necessary that an inquest should be held, the occurrence having been purely accidental. .
