' [Copy urgent teleeram from Dr MacGarthy.] ■ Arrow,. 17th March, 1883.— T0 Horace D. Monk, Dunedin. — Send large di-arrhosa bottle, Duncan, Roxburgh, through by coach Monday morning without fail. — O. MacCabthy. ' Rangiora, July 7, 1881. Sir, — Having carefully examined your ' Herbal Extract,' I find it to be a skillfully : prepared vegetable preparation, possessing the properties of the plants from which it is derived in a highly concentrated state, a fact which I have veritied by evaporating a fluid drachm placed in a watchglass over a spirit lamp. On weighing the result, a dark green extract, I found the weight to be 14J grs. On further submitting the extract to analysis I found it to be rich in tannin. In, a large number of cases of ordinary diarrhoea, as well as in many chronic cases and in dysentery, I have proved it to possess great specific control, added W the inusual -feature in a majority of dia^hoea medicines, that it does not subsequently constipate the bowels. I feel satisfied that from the number of trials I have been enabled to make of it in a- somewhat extensive practice, it is a most valuable addition to modern therapeutics. The fol-, lowing cases are taken at random from my note-b©ok : — Case N.o. 1 : Mrs r , West ,'Eyerton, suffering for two years from chrome dysentery, which had reduced her" almost to a skeleton. After a fortnight's trial not only had the diarrhosa stopped, but . she commenced eating meat without pain and the usual concomitant vomiting. In two months she had gained 181bs. weight. Case No. 2 ; A - Gr > child aged 5 years. Fortnight diarrhoea. Was effectually cured on the third day. Case No. 3 : A soldier who had contracted dysentery in India got a .small twe-ounce phial, and was well before he had tmished half of it.— Caarles DeLacy MacCarthy, M.A., M.8., &c, Trinity College Dublin. . Royal Park Hotel, Hotham, Victoria, October 4. 1882. Dear Sir,— After my. two children and wife taking two bottles of your ' Herbal Extract ' : for the dysentery they were perfectly cured. : I have great pleasure in pronouncing your j medicine the finest for that complaint that I < have ever tried, both for self and family, during my thirty years in the colony.— -I re- ■ main, dear sir, yours truly; R. Nicholis. Rectory, Oamaru, Feb. 12, 1882.
