LICENSING: COMMITTEES MEETINGS.

WtNDHAM. The first meeting of the newly elected Wyndham Licensing Committee took place at noon, on Saturday last. Present: — Messrs Eankin, Milne, and Raymond. Mr James Mime was elected chairman. Several routine matters having been discussed, the meetiug adjourned. Gordon. Piesent on Wednesday :-— Messrs Gardner, Aitken, M'Gill, and Martin. The first named having been elected chairman, the police report was read. Ifc gave a favorable account of both hotels. In leply to Mr Martin, Constable Fretwell stated that the licensed houses were provided with fir« escapes. ,■ Gore. Present — Messrs Fletcher, Piller, Calder, and J. Green. Mr Piller was chosen chairman. In his reporr, Constable Fretwell spoke well of all" the . houses excepting Brennan 1 s. There the furniture was not very good, and various rooms required papering: The house was conducted fairly, and the licensee had not rebuilt, as instructed by the former committee to do. Mr Henderson appeared for Mr Brennan, and pointed out that the building had Jbcen painted outside and improved . inside I since' the sitting at which Mr Brennan received-warning.. The Chairman said the Bench were glad t tp receive such a good police report, ; and hoped Mr Brennan would remedy the defects indicated before next annual meeting. He need not necessarily erect a new building, but same painting, paperhanging, etc., should be done. Matatjba Biding. ■ The committee met" at McNab's station, Knapdale, ■ yesterday. Present — Messrs . McQueen, Martin, and Chisholm. On the motion of Mr Chisholm, seconded by Mr Martin, Mr McQueen was elected chairman. The police report was favorable. It was arranged that the annual sitting be held at the Qourthouse, Gore, on I'riday, June 6. Mataura Town District. The meeting here was fixed for yesterday, but -owing to the inabilty of the clerk to be present was adjourned till to-day.
