FARMERS AHOY! BAGS.
— ♦- TO THE EDITOB. Sir, — The merchants o^ Punedin have made preparations for the harvest Yjfith a vengeance. As yet the matter seems to have gsgaped the notice of those interested, the injustice to be perpetrated not being at once apparent to everyone, The resolution to buy and sell grain by weight " tneang that farmers nmst give tlie bags. This at a very low computation means a loss of L2O to every "cocky." It now rests with the farmers to fight these gentlemen in their own style by organising meetings and associations and refusing to sell to any o£ the above coterie. At present I have only obseryed one or two instances of public action on the subject, 1 but no time should be lost by the farmers in Gore vicinity, in protesting and protecting themselves against such tyrannical innovations. A few years ago a virtuous howl of indignation arose from these gentlemen because one of their own firms by a fluke obtained a monopoly in bags (for the season), fcoiie showing that it is not a small matter. I should have l&ed some abler pen than mine to have taken up the subject, but \i this has tha effect of arousing interest I shall be Satisfied.
