(PROM OD R OWN COB RESPONDENT.) The eld saying that " It never rains l»nt it pours" may, with truth, be applied to Pukerau with reference to meetings. On Saturday, no fewer than four meetings were held, the first being a meeting of the school committee- at which it was decided to call .lor tenders for the fencing of the school glebe ; tenders for the same to be sent to the secretary of the committee on or before Saturtary, the 3rd of November. The second meeting was that of the Variety Ckb, at which it was decided that the members go intosteady rehearsal for the concerts to be held at Christmas. The members of theelub seem determined not to let the grass grow nader their feet, as they have no fewer than four pieces under way. The third wai a meeting of the members of the Quadrille Club, The principal business done was to settle accounts, and past votes of thanka to the musicians-^Tiz,, Messrs Crawford, Guy and Dawson : — who gave their services to the clnb. This assembly has been very successful, any many pleasant evenings have been •peat by the momberg. The last was a meeting of the Cricket Club. There was arery good attendance of the members, and it was decided that new tools be ordered, that the Mataara match be played on the 16th of Nonmber, *nd that the memben of the Otaria Cl«b he written to re amalgamation of the two clubs. Monday was a red-letter day for the musicians, pf Pukerau, ag th« firat train from ttunodin brought to hand, from Messrs Nirth *nd Scoullar's, a beautiful piano. This has been procured by the Variety Club, »nd allows that that institution ia in a very healthy position. There has been a very great improvement •f late in. respect to religious services. We are now favored with service every Sabbath, Mr Rey and Mr Buttle preaching alternately. The Sabbath School hag also been itarted again, and promises to be successful, aa abomt 15 children were present last Sabbath. - Mr Dawson'a new store is fast approaching pqnipletjqn. It is a very handsome, twoffftrejjr bNiiloing, and puts the shop at ■resent occupied by our city butchers completely in the shade. Mr Geprge Gazzard is fclio enlarging and improving Ms atore. The annual concert, in aid of the School prize fund, comes off on Friday, the 16th of November, and should be very successful, as f> rery attractive programme is being prepared.
