The rapidly increasing development of the Frozen Meat Trade, and the immediate prospect of large steamers leaving Port Chalmers monthly, supplemented by numerous sailing vessels, now being fitted up with Refrigerators, renders it desirable that a second company should be started in Dunedin. This is also necessary in order to overtake quickly and economically the growing requirement 3 of the trade, which will to a certainty in the near future assume dimensions at present undreamt of. In most new undertakings mistakes are made, and large sums spent unnecessarily. I The projected Company will have the benefit of the experience of other Companies in the Colony, and the directors expect to be able to erect buildings in every way suitable, with requisite machinery, at a minimum cost. It is of great importance that a suitable site be selected, and the directors will exercise great care and consideration in choosing one in every way adapted for the operations of the Company. Iv addition to freezing and shipping ri^eat, arrangements will be made as soon as possible jfor purchasing )and : preparing f or. \dsjf_% but also to South* *Anierica, which is entujely dependent on Europe for • its supply. The butter annually imported into Brazil is very large, and the trade which was a few years ago entirely with Britain, has latterly been monopolised by France. It is important that the opportunity afforded by steamers from the Colony calling at Rio should be taken advantage of, as they will give access to a second extensive market for Colonial produce. It is intended to include in the Company's operations not only the preparation of meat and daily produce for shipment on owners' account, but also the purchase of same from producers, and to sell or ship on the Company's account. Provision will be made, if found practicable, for the storage of meat, dairy produce, rabbits, fish, fruit, &c, on behalf of butchers, fishmongers, and others. In the event of its being found desirable in the future, power has been taken in the Memorandum of Association to erect works in suitable localities for the manufacture of . butter and cheese. Shareholders will receive as far as practicable, a reasonable preference in the shipping of their meat, or purchase of their stock, kc; and thus, apart from the direct profits of the business, which, from the experienco of other Companies cannot but prove satisfactory, they will also indirectly be great gainers. The facilities wbich will be given by the operations of the Company for shipping mutton to a market where it will realise a price equal to not less than 3d per lb., plus skin and tallow, in the Colony is an advantage which every one should be able to appreciate, and which should lead the settlers of Otago to enter heartily into the new undertaking which is started, and will be carried out with the special object of fostering the interests of the farming community. The directors believe that the full number of shares will be speedily applied for, yet, as the project will supply a felt want, operations will be commenced whenever they consider a sufficient part of the capital has been subscribed. A considerable number "of shares having been already applied for, early application is necessary, as the share list will close on 6th September, The provisional directors w$ allot shares at their discretion, but W spfik a way as will most tend tp."_ s^d-vane^ the interests of the Conipany. p-^ectu^ea asd Forms bf Application may be obtained from the Company's Brokers, Bankers, and Interim Secretary.
