These should oarry away a considerable quantity of the grain now stored at the various stations and in the .open air. Perhaps, too, the Department will repeat the dose at frequent intervals. Passing Pukerau the other other day we noticed 3600 saoks of, grain partly in the shed and partly outside. Mr Walter Deverell, chief draughtsman in the Invercargill Survey Offioe, reoently showed us some well executed and capitally finished drawings in water colors of the wild and romantio scenery in the Manipori and Te Anau Lake districts. The drawings were made by Mr_ Deverell during a reoent expedition inte that terra incognita, and reflect credit on the artist* Mr Deverell is one <>f those fortunate individuals who being* possessed of a versitality of genius pan turn their hands to almost anything, and while he now only practies in water-colors as a means of recreation, be will, if he perseveres, soon make a name for himself in this branch of art. F. Dyer, having failed to comply with the residential condition en his section 7, it was decided to inform him that unless he ocoupied it forthwith it would be forfeited. The Ranger reported that no improvements had been made on section 5, and that the transfer applied for from G. Bobinson to H. Pedlow,. should not have been granted. ,At the Board's last meeting Bobinson had stated that he had erected several chains of fencing, and that the timber was on the ground for & bouse. Both of these statements the Banger had found to be false, and the section was therefore declared to be forfeited.
