SOUTHLAND GRAIN REPORT.
The Southland Farmers' Co-operative Association's J report for the week ending Friday, 9th March, i# as follows :— .; .'■>,. ! Since last report the weather has been fine, and fat* niers have taken every advantage of it. A ntany have finished stacking and have commenced threshing their grain. Advices to hand from the other colonies are atill encouraging and late rates are well rhaintained < Latest advices from Sydney advise a rise in New Zealand wheat, it now being worth from 4s 10s to 63 per bushel for prime milling. Elder's Wool and Produc c Company, Limited, Adelaide, under date the 22nd February, report—" Wheat market firm ; sales have been made at 6s 7Jd to 5s 8d and holders show no in* clination to sell at lower rates, some of the more sanguine believing that 6s per bushel will soon be obtained. The oaf market is a little firmer than it was last week and there are enquiries for good piime milling; malt* ing barley still keeps about the same as in our last re" port. Wheat : There are still enquiries for good prime mil. ling wheat. In the absence of sales no quotations can be given. Oats): The market is a little firmer and for good prime milling lg lOd to 2s may be qupted.\ Grass seed : No business to report. The Melbourne manager of the National Mortgage and Agenoy Company of New Zealand (Limited) reports of the Victorian markets as follows :— Wheat, 6s 3d to 6b sd, and is in request at reduced prices. Malt. ing barley ia steady at 6s 3d to 6s 6d. New Zealand oats are in good demand—feeding, 2s lOd to 3a 6d ; under bond, 2s 3d to 2s lid. ' ' . \ Messrs Green and Souness notify in another column that they are cash buyers of grain in any quantity. Messrs Wright,. Stephenspn, and Co. quote prime beef at 22s 6d per lOOlbs, and medium at 20s ; best merino wethers at from.lOs to 12s ; seconds, 7s 6d to' 8s 6d ; best crossbred wethers, 13s to 15s ; seconds, 10s to 11s— or equal to 2d per lb for crossbred mutton and 2jd for merino. Very best milling wheat, 4s 6d per bushel; other sorts 4s to 4s 3d. Best milling outs 2s ljd to Ss 2d ; good feed, 2s to 2s Id.
