\ ■ . .. .'. .. — ; \ l'O THE EDITOR. ■ I Siß,~The following is an extract from your leader of last Friday on the Bible \ in ■Sohooli : "The head of the party [the Bible in Schools party] in Southland is like to be the head of a party of one. The orthodox editor of the f Southland* Times,' though a Scholar, a Scotch (sic) , and a regular at kirk, shows up very poorly in the nominations for the Board of Education. We can conceive of no reason for his position except his gallant determination to 'take the guns.' " While thanking you for all that ; is complimentary in these statements, l beg to say that I was not at any time a candidate when the recent nominations, were being made for the Education Board; that from 1 the first I declined the offers of nomination ' that I had the honor to receive .from, Com- ' mittees; and thatlpablicly notified my declinature.
