DUNEDIN. This Day. Mr Larnacli has retired from the contest for Dunedin South. Mr Bracken has come out for Dunedin Central, making the fifth candidate for this seat. RUSSELL. This Day. The following are the nominations for t Maori member of Parliament :—Hone Mahi Tawhia, Hunui Taiwliinga, Hone Kcwetn. The show of hands was in favor of Hunui Taiwliinga, CAMBRIDGE. This Day. Four candidates were nominated, viz., Major Te Wheoro, Hamiore Mangakxhio, Win. Hughes (half-caste), and Mita Kaioka. NAPIER. This Day. The high prices recently obtained for land in small blocks here is causing other large estates to lie put into the market, Messrs Rhodes and Go's largo Rassington property will be imxt offered. Two men recently released from the Napier gaol, whore they had undergone long sentences, claimed to be placed on the. Electoral Roll, on the ground that they had been six months resident here, and tha registrar allowed their claim, although ho was informed of the circumstances. He said lie had no power to refuse, as the msn were not sentenced for felony. CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. H. R. faiaroa, was the only person nominated for the Southern Maori district, and he has therefore been declared duly elected. Mr J. T. Watson has declined after consideration to oppose Mr Rolleston for Avon. PUNGAREHU. Thursday. Katarina,(aNative from the neighborhood of Raliotu, came to Pariliak* this morning, and was allowed to remove two dray loads of potatoes, some for food and other* for seed. The Natives from different hapus will he allowed to return for food, but always under supervision. Scarcely an adult Native was seen in the village to-day, they no doubt having taken shelter in various wharcs. During the absence of the Natives from the fences at Pungarehu, several horses strayed on tli* plantations and played sad havoc with the potatoes and crop*. The Natives returned to the fences this morning. On Tueiday two Natives belonging to the llawera district wore found in teai*, and on being asked the reason of their grief they remarked that they wished to go to their homes, hut did not care to proceed there unless taken as others have bten. Raliotu Camp will he dismantled in a day or two, and the Okato Camp will also he abandoned as soon as arrangements are concluded for doing so.

He declared injfavor of a Land Tax as introduced by Sir George Grey, and assistance given to Denominational Schools. He was in favor of limited protection to local industries. A vote of confidence was carried. Titokowaru was brought up at the Police ('ourt this morning, and charged by Thomas Lloyd, hotelkeeper at Mania, with having on the 12th October used threatening words to the effect that lie would burn down the hotel, and murder the women and children, and that lie would set tire to Mania. Mr Stxndish appeared for the prosecutor to have Titokowaru bound over to keep the peace. The case is now proeeedTitokowaru has keen ordered to find two sureties in L3OO each to keep the peace for 12 months, In the meantime he will he kept in gaol till lie finds sureties.
