To the Electors of the Wairau. QjJENTLEMEN, —At the forthcoming General Election of Members for the House of Representatives, I propose to offer myself as a Candidate for the Wairau Seat. I shall ask you to be good enough to meet me at various places in the Electorate to discuss matters of public interest to the Colony and yourselves. To the Electors of the Picton Electoral District. GENTLEMEN, —1 am informed by a requisition numerously signed, and also by many of you who for various reasons can not or will not sign any requisition, that my offering myself as a Candidate to represent the District in Parliament would not be unacceptable to you. I have therefore much pleasure in so offering myself. Having resided among you for more than sixteen years, and having been for nearly ten years a member of the Provincial Council, my public and private character must bo well known to most of you ; and it will certainly
1 »f‘ most gratifying to me if your estimation of me should be such as to lead you to confer on me the honour of being your representative in Parliament. It would be impossible, even if desirable, for me to wait upon you individually; but I propose at an early date to meet and address you at the various centres of population. With this view, meetings will be held at Havelock, Canvastown, Deep Creek, Kaituna, Rock Ferry, Tua Marina, Waitohi Valley, and Picton, of which due notice will be given.
