LONDON SEED TRADE. Messrs John Shaw and Sons, of .'57, Mark Lane, London, E.C., report through their Agent, Mr LAV. Blake, of Christchurch, that the market during the fortnightending September Bth continued quiet, the most noticeable feature being the increasing firmness of red clover, owing to the had reports of the new crops, not only at Home but on the Continent and in America. In England it would have been good, generally on the clay lands, had it not been for the recent disastrous rains, in consequence of which some of the earliest heads were sprouting. The clover was being beaten down and instead of ripening was growing, so that the prospects of a good quality and yield were completely destroyed. Considerable quantities of yearling were being shipped to the Continent, whilst advices both’ by cable and mail from America gave very had accounts of the new crjps there. The stock of American in Liverpool was estimated at ISO tons, against 5(]G tons in the same period last year. English nlyske (new) moderate in quantity, but of fine quality. White clover, alsyke, and trefoil quiet, hut prices steady. A heavy rise, in canary and hemp; the former was being shipped largely to the United States. Mustard and rape were selling slowly on former terms. Linseed was easier.
